World Youth Day 2011

"Sydney: Witness the Spirit" WYD08 DVD

 World Youth Day
is the largest youth event in the world and was last held in Sydney from 15-20 July 2008.

Organised by the Catholic Church, World Youth Day gathers young people from around the world to build bridges of friendship and hope between continents, peoples and cultures.

St Mary's parish was fortunate to be able to send a contingency of 45 pilgrims to experience the joy, reverence, spirit and hope that being a young Catholic in the third millennium is all about.

At the concluding mass of WYD08 in Sydney, Australia, Pope Benedict XVI announced that the 24th World Youth Day would be hosted by Madrid (Spain), August 16th - 21st, 2011.

Auckland Diocese will be sending another pilgrim group to Madrid.  A special Auckland Dio WYD2011 committee was formed in 2009 to promote the event amongst parishioners, organise fundraising activities in the parish, as well as sort out the logistics of how to get there.  If you are interested in being either a 2011 pilgrim or feel that you can assist St Mary's parish in organising a WYD2011 steering committee, or both,  please contact the parish office on 299 6056.

Alternatively you may wish to contact Manuel Beazley (Akld Dio WYD2011 Yth Rep) based at St John's, Otara on 09 274 8214, email: otararc@xtra.co.nz
